Note: To edit the unit of measure name, close this dialog and choose Rename from the Actions menu.
If applicable, add one or more alternative units in order to create special variables for converting the original unit to the alternative unit, or vice versa. If the alternative unit has already been added to the library, you may find and select it using the type-ahead search; or you may add a new unit of measure to the library here. Then click Add.
Enter the number of original units that are equivalent to one of the new units. Note that it is easier to begin with an original unit which is smaller than the alternative unit.
For example, begin with pounds, and then add tons as an alternative unit rather than the other way around. Enter 2,000, so the conversion factor reads, 1 ton = 2,000 pounds.
You may also click the double arrow icon at the right to flip the display of the units in the equation. However, if the alternative unit is smaller than the original, the conversion factor will be stored as a number less than one.
For example, if you had begun with tons as the original unit, and entered pounds as the alternative unit, you must enter 0.0005 for the conversion factor. However, if you click the double arrow icon at the right, you may enter 2,000 as before. But once you save your changes, the conversion factor will revert to 1 pound = 0.0005 tons.
If available, check one or more relevant labels to enable users to find this unit of measure more easily.
